over the hill console release date: PS5, Xbox and Switch 2

over the hill console release covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, all planned for 2027 with no exact dates. Physical editions and crossplay details.

over the hill is confirmed for three console platforms — PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 — and all three are planned for 2027. No month or day has been published for any of them. The PC version launches first through Steam on October 14, 2026, in Canada and Algeria, so every console version arrives at least a year later than the PC build.

There is one official source that says 2026 instead, and it is worth reading before you plan around a date. An official GamesPress press release announcing the console plans states the game is "coming to Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch™ 2 in 2026." That line contradicts every other source.

The three confirmed platforms

The console announcement covered PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 as a single group, developed by Funselektor Labs Inc. and Strelka Games and published by Funselektor Labs Inc. The games built on Unity 6, and the console versions are the same game rather than separate ports with reduced features.

Both Sony and Microsoft storefront records exist ahead of release. The PlayStation Store entry carries concept ID 10017187, the Microsoft Store entry uses product ID 9pmdqwhs0dc2, and the Nintendo eShop reads "Coming soon".

Why 2027, and the one source that says 2026

The 2027 window appears across the console announcement coverage, the platform round-ups and the store page references. Every source that names a year for the hardware versions names 2027, with no month attached to any platform. The reasoning is straightforward: the PC date is locked at October 14, 2026, and no console build is dated.

Against that, the GamesPress official press release says 2026 for the same three platforms plus Steam. It is a first-party source and it contradicts the rest of the record. The conflict is unresolved in the official material, so the year beyond 2027 is not something to plan a purchase calendar around. Treat the specific date for all three consoles as 待确认.

What the gap between PC and console means

On the current record, PC players get the game roughly a year before console players. That gap shapes two things in particular: the physical editions, and the size of the community each platform launches into.

It also means the PC build is effectively the first public test of the game. The June2026 demo, the April closed playtest and every trailer so far were PC-only, and there are no player reviews on the Steam page yet. Console players will be arriving at a build whose balance and rough edges have already been shaped by a year of PC feedback.

Physical editions: which platforms get them

Physical releases are confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, published by Serenity Forge, in two editions each: a Collector's Edition and a Premium Standard Edition. For Xbox, no physical edition has been announced. That asymmetry is the main practical difference between the three console versions.

Preorders for the physical editions were expected to open after the PC launch, roughly around the console release date announcement, described as "around the console release date announcement". So the preorder window is tied to the console date reveal, not to October 14. Official retail pricing for every platform and edition is 待确认.

Crossplay is confirmed, which softens the gap

Cross-platform play across PC and console is confirmed, and the recorded crossplay platform list is PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2. Online co-op supports 1–4 players in co-op mode, and the payment model is a one-time purchase with no microtransactions.

This is the detail that reduces the sting of the staggered release. A PC group does not get locked out when the console wave arrives — console players join the same sessions. What the gap does cost is shared play during the PC-only window, since there is nobody on console to play with before 2027.

What console players will get

Confirmed features are the same across platforms: dynamic weather, a full day/night cycle, and what the developers call realistic terrain deformation. Recovery equipment includes wooden planks for bridging, winches for self-recovery and portable winch anchors, with a grappling hook also mentioned. Exploration covers trail challenges, scenic viewpoints, item recovery missions and cabins that act as fast-travel points, plus camping, campfires and hot cocoa and a built-in camera mode.

Three vehicles ship at launch, expanding to roughly 20 through later updates, with styling drawn from 1960s–1980s designs in the vein of the Ford Bronco, Land Rover and Toyota Land Cruiser as unlicensed designs. Three specific vehicles have been photographed so far, including one resembling a Land Rover Defender and one resembling a Mercedes G-Wagon, though the launch three are not named individually. Launch regions are Canada and Algeria, and more regions, free updates and paid DLC are planned afterward. Full controller support is confirmed with both Xbox and PlayStation controllers named.

"This is a driving game, not a racing game." The developer's own framing, and the reason there is no track, no finish line and no lap-time pressure for a console version to balance around.

What is still 待确认

Official retail pricing on all three consoles, and the specific release date for each, are both unannounced. The original soundtrack DLC is stated to release alongside the base game with its price also unconfirmed. Whether the three platforms launch on the same day or drift apart within 2027 is not stated either.

What to watch is the console date announcement, whenever it happens. It is the event that dates all three platforms, opens the Serenity Forge preorders, and finally makes the confirmed crossplay list testable with real players on both sides.
