over the hill release date is October 14, 2026 on Steam PC

over the hill release date is October 14, 2026 for Steam PC, with PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 planned for 2027. Here is the full launch window.

over the hill release date is October 14, 2026, and it launches on PC via Steam first. Console versions on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 follow in 2027. The date has been confirmed by the developers — it is not a placeholder that could slip again.

Funselektor Labs Inc. and Strelka Games have been building this for roughly two years, and the wait has been unusually well documented. The Steam store page still shows the game as unreleased with a planned date of October 14, 2026, which means at the time of writing there are no player reviews yet.

The confirmed launch window

The PC launch is a single date rather than a rolling window. Steam lists the release date as 2026-10-14, and the same date appears across the official store page, the press kit and every major outlet that covered the announcement. There is no early-access period listed before it.

Where the 2027 console date comes from

The 2027 console window is well sourced, but there is one conflicting signal worth knowing about. Most reporting — including the Steam store page's own console references and the console announcement coverage — points to 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch 2.

An official GamesPress press release announcing the console plans, however, states the game is "coming to Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026." That single line conflicts with every other source. Given the October 14 PC date is locked and the three console platforms are not yet dated, 2027 is the reading the weight of evidence supports, but the discrepancy is real and unresolved in the official material.

No exact console release date has been announced for any of the three platforms.

Regions available at launch

The launch build covers two regions: Canada and Algeria. Canada is the region built around the Emerald Lake area shown in the demo, an alpine landscape of fir forests, lakes and muddy trails. Algeria was revealed separately and draws on real-world geography — high plateaus, ancient ruins, wind-scoured valleys and fallen meteorites.

More regions are planned after launch, alongside free updates and paid DLC. The developers have said the full game will contain more content than the demo did, though they have not put a number on it.

How the launch was paced

The road to release ran through several public milestones. The first gameplay trailer arrived in April 2025 with roughly 200,000 Steam wishlists. By April 2026, alongside the Algeria trailer and a closed playtest, that had passed one million. After the June 2026 Steam Next Fest demo drew more than 500,000 players, the count reached about 1.2 million.

That figure put the game around 21st on Steam's all-time most-wishlisted chart according to SteamDB data cited by GamingOnLinux. For an independent studio of Funselektor's size, that is an unusually large pre-launch audience and suggests strong word of mouth before the first day of sales.

The demo came first, not early access

There was no early-access rollout. Instead, a free demo ran on Steam from June 12 to June 22, 2026, overlapping the June 15 start of Steam Next Fest. It covered one map — Emerald Lake — and one vehicle type, but already included a fair number of customization options.

The demo landed well: nearly 2,000 user reviews at 81% positive, rated Very Positive overall. A closed playtest also ran earlier, from April 24 to 26, 2026, with registration open April 9 to 16.

The best stories never start at the end. The developers' own framing of the game, repeated across the store page and press materials, is about the journey rather than a finish line.

Physical and store editions

Console versions are not the only non-Steam route. PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store pages exist for the game — the PlayStation Store listing carries the concept ID 10017187, and the Microsoft Store entry uses product ID 9pmdqwhs0dc2. Nintendo eShop is listed as "Coming soon" with no live page at the time of writing.

Physical editions are confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, published through Serenity Forge. They come in two forms, a Collector's Edition and a Premium Standard Edition. No physical Xbox edition has been announced, and preorders were expected to open roughly around the console release date announcement rather than at the PC launch.

Third-party key retailers have also been tracking the title, and PC listings have circulated at prices well above what a typical indie release commands. Those are reseller listings, not official pricing, and they are not a reliable guide to what the game will actually cost on Steam.

Why the October date is solid

The date has not moved in public. It was teased through the first gameplay trailer in April 2025, refined when the Algeria region and closed playtest were announced, and then fixed once Steam listed it. By the time the June demo ran, the October 14 date was already attached to the store page, which is why the current page still shows the game as unreleased with a countdown rather than a live release.

Funselektor has been transparent throughout, streaming development updates on the official channel and running a Reddit AMA on r/pcgaming. A late-September stream announcement featured a developer named Oscar discussing the game's level design, which is the kind of ongoing communication that tends to correlate with a date that holds.

"This is a driving game, not a racing game." That single line from the official store page is the clearest signal about what kind of release this is — no lap times, no leaderboards, and no reason for the date to slip for content reasons.

What to check on launch day

Regional availability beyond Canada and Algeria, final pricing, and any platform-specific feature differences were not confirmed in the sources available for this page. The Steam store page is the authoritative source for all three, and it is worth re-reading on October 14 itself, since listed configuration can change right up to release.
